Shopping on Kauai

Below is a list of our MAJOR stores in Kauai:

Costco (upgrade to an Executive Membership to receive yearly rebate checks of up to $400)
Walmart
Kmart
Safeway
Sears (electronics, appliances, tools, limited household items)
Macy’s (limited selection—primary store for women’s clothing on the island)
Borders
Lids
Claire’s
Blockbuster Video
Famous Footwear
Foot Locker
Payless Shoe Source
Home Depot
Ace Hardware (includes craft section)
Autozone
Baby Blutique
Salvation Army
Big Save (A local grocery store. There is usually one in every other town, but prices are pretty steep! ex: $9 for a gallon of milk!)

(All of the above are located in Lihue or Kapaa , approximately 1 hour away from PMRF).

Other Stores
PMRF Navy Exchange: Includes a small market, limited fresh fruits and veggies; small clothing, uniform, electronics, and housewares sections. Dry cleaning and uniform alterations are sent to Oahu weekly. Special orders from Oahu NEX will be shipped to PMRF for free (ex: shoes, furniture, jewelry, etc.)

**If you are anticipating making major purchases upon arriving, we advise against it! Selection in Kauai is quite limited, and many online stores either refuse to ship to Hawaii (ie: Costco, Walmart) or charge an arm or a leg for shipping. Plan ahead as much as possible and get what you need BEFORE arriving in Kauai!

**Many PMRF residents choose to purchase an extra refrigerator or freezer to store their bulk food in and to cut down the number of trips to Lihue. Buying in bulk is almost a necessity here.

The following are some of our favorite online stores with reasonable shipping to Hawaii:

Navy Exchange
Amazon.com (take advantage of the super-saver shipping)
Target.com
Overstock.com
Ebay.com
JoAnn.com
Netflix.com (movies usually arrive within 2 days)
Finishline.com
Borders.com (if the Kauai Borders doesn’t have an item in stock, they will give you a free shipping code to use online).

**Take advantage of coupon code websites for free online shipping deals and other amazing discounts! Try these to start: www.retailmenot.com and www.freeshipping.org

If all else fails, island hopping to Oahu is always an option!
